Onsite classes and rehearsals

Destiny Arts Centre (DAC) offers classes in dance, martial arts, theater, and leadership preparation for ages 3-18 in our North Oakland location. Classes are one to ane 1/ii hours in length, and are taught using the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards.  Performance opportunities are held twice annually.

Since our founding in 1988, Destiny Arts Center has partnered with schools and community-based organizations to bring movement arts to young people across Oakland and the greater Bay Area. Through residencies in school-day classrooms, after-school programs, community centers and youth incarceration facilities, our teaching artists bring creative youth evolution programs to immature people ages 3-24 where they alive and go to schoolhouse.

Destiny partners with school administrators, classroom teachers, and community-based organizations to bring culturally relevant, movement-based creative youth development programs to classrooms, as well every bit during critical after-school hours and during the summer.

In-School partnerships provide opportunities for curriculum-aligned arts learning suffused with movement, social-emotional learning and restorative practice during the school day. Destiny teaching artists are supported to engage and partner with classroom teachers then that they can co-create a positive classroom culture and draw connections to classroom curriculum.

Our out of school time programs are fundamentally rooted in Destiny'southward creative youth development approach, which centers youth voice and expression while supporting students to feel safe and continued to their after school and summer program communities.

The Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company (DAYPC) brings together youth ages 13-18 to perform throughout the Bay Area each year. Combining hip hop, modern and aeriform dance, theater, song, and rap, company members take the phase to tell stories that stem from their lived experiences and express their visions for a world transformed. Since 1993, DAYPC has performed original piece of work for up to 25,000 audience members annually, garnering disquisitional acclaim and widespread community support for both their technical prowess and their commitment to advancing inclusivity, equity, and justice. In 2017, DAYPC received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Laurels, the nation's height honor for creative youth evolution programs.

The Destiny Inferior Company (DJC) follows a supportive audition procedure much similar DAYPC's. Each fall 15 9-12 twelvemonth olds are chosen to spend the academic year cultivating their artistic voices and edifice technical vocabulary in dance, theater, and performance. These young visionaries join DJC Artistic Director in co-creating portions of DAYPC's annual product equally well every bit original works that they perform at various venues throughout the year. The Destiny Inferior Company serves every bit a training ground for younger performers in the performing arts. Camp Destiny is our weeklong day camp for 7-12 year olds. Youth learn art forms ranging from hip hop trip the light fantastic, to martial arts, visual arts, and theater with an emphasis on mindfulness and peace-building in a lively and inclusive community setting. The programme is offered in 4, week-long sessions. Each calendar week of army camp culminates in a dynamic functioning for friends and family on Fri evening.
